We have several different training packages to choose from. Everything from Basic Handling to Performance Training. We even offer a reduced package for the Off-Season to keep your horse fit without the extra expense. The costs presented are in addition to the board. You can view our boarding fees here

Basic Handling - $300.00

As the name implies, this training package is geared for the younger or unhandled horse or pony. The ultimate goal is to train the animal to be a joy to handle and be around.

During this stage of training your horse or pony will:

  • Learn to be handled and become comfortable with people
  • Learn to Lead correctly
  • Learn to stand for clipping and other tasks such as veterinarians and farriers

This training package should be used as early as possible in the horse's life. It is the basics of everything else we do. The later in life this training is started, the longer it takes and the more dangerous it is.

Introduction to Undersaddle or Driving - $325.00

As the name implies, this training package is the next step after our Basic Handling course. During this training, we are teaching the horse or pony to accept the saddle or harness and cart. Our goal is to allow the horse to be comfortable with the equipment and basic commands so they are ready to be ridden or driven. You can choose between Undersaddle or Driving, or do both for just $100 more a month.

During this stage of training we will be working on:

  • Continued work on Handling
  • Continued work with Leading
  • Continued work on Lunging
  • Continued work on Clipping and other handling
  • Basic Reining
  • Long-Lining
  • Ponying (when appropriate)
  • Introduction to the Saddle or Cart

Horses or Ponies entering the Introductory course must have completed the Basic Handling requirements.

Undersaddle/Driving
Training - $350.00

In our Basic Training course, we are finally ready to start the specific training of each animal. If you have a horse, you can choose to have them trained for riding or driving or both. While it is possible, smaller ponies are not usually trained to ride.

In this course, we finally begin to ride or drive the animal. By the time this course is done, our goal is for the horse or pony to be comfortable in thier skills. If your horse or pony is not going to compete, we would expect that you would be able to take him home and enjoy riding or driving (depending on selected training,) without concern

During this stage of training your horse or pony will receive:

  • More Handling
  • Lunging
  • Arena Work
  • Bitting
  • Conditioning
  • Clipping as necessary

This course is the "advanced" course to train the horse or pony to be able to start competing in shows. This is where we build on the basic foundation and perfect all the gaits, buttons/cues/commands, stances, speeds, etc., to prepare them for competition. The final result of this training will be a finished horse or pony in the chosen training.

Show Maintenance - $325.00

Once your horse or pony has completed the Performance course, we expect that he or she will be able to maintain that training. But like any athlete, skills get rusty, and they lose muscle tone. This package is not training, per se, but is ongoing work to improve the skills the animal has learned as well as keep him conditioned and ready to show.

Horses beginning Showtime training must have been with Windance Farms for at least 10 months of the previous 12 months and completed the Performance Training requirements and shown in at least one rated show.

Show Expenses

Show's can be very confusing and busy. There are a number of details to be managed throughout the show season. These can include dates, location, stalls, class entries, not to mention training and practice if you are going to show your equine.

Rest assured, Windance Farms has the experience of countless shows and thus has the experience to know the process and costs. We are familiar with most of the shows' procedures and deadlines. We are here to help you complete your applications well before the show(s) you plan to attend.

That being said, there are fees we incur as well that we must pay on your behalf. As the "Showing  Barn," we usually pay for the tack stalls. It also costs money to have your animals transported** to the shows. Regardless of the services we provide, we continue to look for a trusted agent to provide these services at the best price we can find. To cover these costs, you will be invoiced for each show. The amount invoiced will cover everything to get your horse or pony to the show, prepare and show him/her at an appropriate class level.

Additional costs such as health and Coggins, registration fees, class fees, horse stalls, and sawdust will be billed directly to you by the provider or show office.

Again, we will work with you to understand it all and help you through the maze we call Horse/Pony Shows.

Show Fees

The fees for each show will include everything to show your horse or pony, including but not limited to:

Bathing, Presentation Clipping, Presentation grooming, hoof sanding, and polishing, braiding, daily care of the animal, and exhibiting the horse or pony in classes. This fee is a flat $50* per show day.

Other expenses Windance Farms will invoice the client for include, tack stalls, food and rooms for Windance Farms staff, and transportation. These expenses are shared equally among all the clients participating in that show, including Windance Farms if we show our horses/ponies.

Transportation is currently billed at $0.58* per stall per mile.

Reservations for shows must be made prior to the set deadline ***. It's crucial that fees for the show are paid by this deadline to secure your slot. Failure to do so may result in your slot being given to another horse/pony.

After the show deadline has passed, all fees are non-refundable but may be transferred to another Windance Farms client.

Exhibition Charges

As a full-service training and show barn, we offer to show or exhibit your horse or pony for you even if you don't travel or show with us.

As part of the Windance Farms Show String, the costs for exhibiting your horse or pony are paid as part of the Show Fees. These charges will only be added if you decide to add classes after all fees have been paid.

If you choose to ask us to show without being part of our "show string," the amounts listed below are due prior to any exhibiting of your horse or pony

The fees are listed below, and the option is on a first-come, first-served basis.
